Grant's frenectomy

Yesterday was a rough day for both Grant and me. We had to get Grant’s tongue clipped. He was having a hard time eating. I was referred to a Dr by a friend. When we got there he almost wouldn’t do the surgery because we hadn’t finalized the adoption. He said he needed Birth Mother’s approval first. I was mad because he was making it seem like I wasn’t his mother. I told him that in adoption situations, I am his legal guardian. I had his circumcision done with no problems. When Grant’s Birth Mother signed papers after Grant was born, she signed all rights to us. She would be devastated if Dr’s were coming to her asking permission to do procedures on our child. I finally convinced him that this was not a CPS case and he agreed to do the surgery. I begged him to let me swaddle him because he weighed in at a whopping 20 lbs and I knew he would be much easier to restrain if I swaddled him. Plus he LOVES being swaddled tight. He didn’t even cry at his PKU because we swaddled him. He said no, that the nurses would come in and hold him down and that’s what they do. So I didn’t argue. He puts numbing on his tongue and then within seconds has me hold him down and starts cutting. I had no idea what was happening. What happened to those nurses he promised? And why didn’t he let the numbing stuff set in? It was only on for like 10-20 seconds. How could that possibly have numbed it that fast? Then I see the blood and I get nauseous. He gets done cutting and goes to cauterize it and Grant’s hand breaks free and he hits the stick, burning his hand, cheek, lip and tongue (the part that didn’t get cut). I was one LIVID Mamma! If I had swaddled him, that would’ve never happened.  Then he left the room and I never saw him again. I gave him some milk to calm him down and we left… both of us ANGRY. He did really well last night. He’s not acting like anything hurts at all. He’s been laughing and playing like normal! My little trooper!

His tongue wont come past this point.

Here's his poor burnt hand

dispite the burns and the tongue, he's doing really well
